Capitalism in the Anthropocene
Capitalism in the Anthropocene is a book that reinterprets Marxism, specifically Marx's Capital theory. It explores topics related to Climate Change and concepts like SDGs and Sustainability, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues. However, the criticism is not directed towards the SDGs movement itself, but towards those who exploit this social activity without pursuing its essence. This includes Disaster opportunistic capitalism and the need to correct the consuming ideology as symbols. In essence, the solution to climate change lies in economic degrowth. That's why it's crucial for citizens to take action.
The book discusses how even the current SDGs movement is ultimately taking place within the framework of capitalist economy. Capitalism constantly creates "external" factors, including the environment, and transfers the burden to these external entities. This system of capitalism itself creates scarcity.
While there are ideologies like Left-wing accelerationism that propose solutions to climate change, it is argued that relying solely on political ideologies may not have been successful in the past. However, it is challenging to abandon the notion that growth is inherently good in today's capitalist society. This is where the concept of Common comes in, referring to the wealth that should be shared and managed by people in society. It is not the same as Socialism (such as the Soviet Union).
